Here’s the next look at our region by the numbers as of Feburary 11, 2016. Today, we are looking at team standings, results, winning streaks, percentages, and averages for all the PHAC tournament teams throughout the season. This is a special edition of Inside the Valley’s Numbers, and Shikellamy and Sullivan County have been eliminated, they are still included for the sake of looking at the numbers.

Boys Basketball

56: Number of combined divisional wins between the four teams within the tournament. Shikellamy (12-2) was the only team with losses, both coming to Shamokin (14-0). Lewisburg (16-0) and Sullivan County (14-0) were perfect in their division.

5: Number of combined double-digit win streaks among all four teams. Shamokin now has two after beating Sullivan County (12 games and 10 games), Shikellamy won 10 straight from Dec. 22-Jan 30, Lewisburg opened the year winning their first 19 games, and the Griffins did the same in their first 15.

2: Shamokin has now reached the PHAC Basketball Finals for back-to-back years. They’ll face Lewisburg tomorrow at 7:30 at Shikellamy H.S.

Girls Basketball

4: Number of combined PHAC divisional losses among all four teams competing. All four come out of the HAC-I, with Danville (13-1) falling to Mifflinburg and Shamokin (11-3) dropping two to Danville and one to Midd-West.

14.4: The difference between the best point differential (Southern Col. – 23.2) and the worst (Shamokin – 8.8) among the four teams competing. Mt. Carmel comes in with an 18.6, while Danville has a 16.4.

20: Talk about coming in hot. Mt. Carmel is riding a 20-game win streak into the tournament. It’s by far the hottest among all the teams, as Southern Columbia has won three-straight, Shamokin breaking a three-game losing streak last Tuesday, and Danville claiming their first loss in their last game.
